CRISM: Exploring the Geology of Mars

Christina Beck of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory describes how she and other researchers use data from the Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars (CRISM) Instrument, a spectrometer built at APL aboard NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. Beck explains how CRISM hyperspectral images are used to understand the history and formation of Valles Marineris, one of the largest canyons in the solar system, and how the data is used to unravel the ancient environments of Mars.
