1) 2001 Mars Odyssey: The 2001 Mars Odyssey orbiter is a NASA mission designed to study the Martian environment. For the first time, we will learn what chemical elements (e.g., carbon, iron, etc.) and minerals are present at the planet's surface, and will look for any water ice that may lie just below the surface. By studying landforms and their composition, Odyssey will help us understand the planet's climatic and geologic history. Odyssey will also record the Martian radiation environment to determine health risks for any future human explorers.
